PORT AUTOMATION & DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVE
Accelerating automation and emerging technologies across India's major ports
Vision
Setting of R&D Landscape for smart automation in Ports focused on enhancing operational efficiency, safety, sustainability, and digital transformation across Indian ports and maritime infrastructure.
Problem
Port Automation Units address operational delays, manual processes, poor system integration, limited real-time visibility, equipment downtime, safety compliance challenges, cargo congestion, and inefficient stakeholder coordination through centralized smart digital solutions.
Solution
Integrated smart digital systems addressing port pain points: vessel delays, cargo congestion, manual operations, poor coordination, equipment downtime, safety and compliance gaps, and limited real-time operational visibility.
Potential
Targeting 10,000+ port users and stakeholders, the project aims for 30–40% efficiency gains, reduced vessel turnaround, better safety compliance, and fully integrated smart-port operations within a decade.
Target Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries include port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, logistics providers, customs agencies, vessel operators, cargo handlers, maintenance teams, transport operators, regulatory bodies, and maritime supply chain stakeholders.
Current Users
Pilot deployments include smart VTMS deployment at Ports, smart docking aid, digital port operations platforms, and indigenous maritime technology solutions implemented with major ports, research institutions, and maritime operational stakeholders.
